Born in June 2000, Nathan is the youngest member of Great Ape
Trust's bonobo family.
His mother, Panbanisha,
seems to behave more like a human mother than other bonobo mothers.
Whereas other mothers tend to care for their children on their own,
Panbanisha has been asking staff members for help in taking care of
Nathan since the time of his birth. Now at nearly five years old,
Nathan is proving to take after this uncle Kanzi when it comes to food. He'll eat just about anything! Most recently,
Nathan has developed a very strong bond with his biological father
P-Suke. Traditionally, Nathan spent most of his time with Panbanisha,
Nyota, and Kanzi. As the baby, they indulged him. His experience with
P-Suke is proving to be very positive helping Nathan develop a sense
of personal boundaries, independence, and discipline.
