What makes Allie unique?

Without question, Allie’s character. While living at Denver, Allie experienced a neurological event of undetermined origin and temporarily lost the use of her arms and legs. Over time, with excellent care and physical therapy both at Denver and Great Ape Trust, her arms and hands have improved tremendously. Both of her legs have improved as well, and she can now voluntarily flex both legs and push with her legs. It is important to note that no one at Great Ape Trust regards Allie as handicapped, and she is able to travel to all the same areas as the other orangutans – just in a different manner.

What research is Allie involved in?

Allie has participated in a quantity judgment study and will participate in a gaze-following study.

What is Allie’s disposition?

Allie is self-sufficient, determined, resourceful and an inspiration to the human caretakers at Great Ape Trust who consider working with her a great privilege.
